Vocea ta dulce pe Dragobete îl seduce,
Pe Crivățul viclean la tăcere îl reduce.
Clinchetele de ghiocei îți anunță sosirea,
Prezența ta grațioasă însuflețește omenirea.
Serenadele prinților înaripați peste tot răsună,
Florile gingașe valsează în minunata grădină.
Parfumul tău delicat îl poartă fiecare doamnă,
Amintindu-i că frumusețea nu poartă coroană,
Ci se arată prin faptele pe care le-a săvârșit
Alături de coșurile cu iubire pe care le-a dăruit
Sufletelor dragi întâlnite de-a lungul vieții.
Ești o sursă de inspirație pentru toți poeții,
Apreciezi eforturile depuse de fiecare mamă
Să rezolve încetul cu încetul orice problemă,
Spunându-ne să nu uităm să-i oferim o floare
În fiecare zi nu numai când este sărbătoare.

Your sweet voice is seducing Dragobete1,
Reducing the sly Jack Frost to silence.
The tintinnabulation of snowdrops are announcing your arrival,
Your graceful presence is enlivening humanity.
The winged princes’ serenades are echoing everywhere,
The delicate flowers are waltzing in the wonderful garden.
Every lady is wearing your delicate perfume,
Reminding her that beauty doesn’t wear a crown,
It’s shown through the deeds she performed
Along with the baskets of love she gave
To the loved ones she met throughout her life.
You’re a source of inspiration to every poet,
You appreciate every mother’s efforts
To solve every problem little by little,
Telling us to never forget to give her a flower
Every day not only when there’s a holiday.

1 Dragobete is the Romanian equivalent of Eros, Cupid and Valentine’s Day. He’s the god of love, protector of birds, lovers and couples. In some versions of the legend, he is the husband of spring. Romanians celebrate him every year on February 24th and say “Dragobete kisses the girls”.
